Manage, view, or delete SharePoint alerts

Alerts are notifications of changes to content on a site that you receive as email messages or text messages to your mobile phone, depending on how your site is configured. This article focuses on how to manage or delete alerts for yourself and for other users if you are a site admin.

To view and cancel your alerts and change the settings for your alerts, you can use either the User Information page or the Manage Alerts on this Site page. If you have permission to manage a site, you can also view and cancel alerts for other users by using the User Alerts page.

Note: Notifications might take up to 4 hours to be received.

View and cancel an alert for me on SharePoint

  1. In the list or library where you've set the alerts, select the ... (ellipses), and then select Manage my alerts.

  2. In My Alerts on this Site, next to the alert you want to delete, select the checkbox.

  3. Select Delete Selected Alerts, and then select OK.

View or cancel an alert for another person on SharePoint

  1. Select Settings SharePoint 2016 Settings button on title bar., and then select Site Settings.

  2. Under Site Administration, select User alerts.

  3. To select a user, select Display alerts for, and then select Update.

  4. Next to the alert you want to delete, select the checkbox, and then select Delete Selected Alerts.

  5. Select OK.

Note: System generated emails from SharePoint workflows and alerts are sent from no-reply@sharepointonline.com address with a display name of "SharePoint Online".

View and cancel an alert for me on SharePoint 2019 and 2016

  1. In the list or library where you've set the alerts, select the List or Library tab.

  2. Select Alert Me, and then select Manage My Alerts.

  3. In My Alerts on this site, next to the alert you want to delete, select the checkbox.

  4. Select Delete Selected Alerts, and then select OK.

View or cancel an alert for another person on SharePoint 2016

  1. Select Settings SharePoint 2016 Settings button on title bar. or Site Actions Button image, and then select Site Settings.

  2. Under Site Administration, select User alerts.

  3. To select a user, select Display alerts for, and then select Update.

  4. Next to the alert you want to delete, select the checkbox, and then select Delete Selected Alerts.

  5. Select OK.

Technical Limitations

The alerts feature might encounter issues when combined with other features, such as the following:

  • Usernames or folders containing special characters. Note that the ampersand (&) and single quotation mark ( ' ) characters are accepted by some Microsoft apps but can't be used for alerts.

  • Alerts/Views which filter on multi-value, lookup, or calculated columns.

  • Libraries that require content approval.

  • Limit of 50 immediate alert emails per subscribed email address per minute across all list and libraries.

  • Daily alerts emails will include up to 25 activities on a maximum of 50 items per list or library.

Unsubscribe to an RSS Feed

You can cancel a subscription to an RSS Feed for a SharePoint list, library, or view by following the instructions in your RSS reader, email program, or browser. For more information about your reader or program, refer to their Help documentation.
