Video playback settings in Windows
Applies To
Windows 11 Windows 10Some apps use the video platform that's built into Windows. These include Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps that come with Windows, such as Photos, and Movies & TV, as well as many third-party video apps you get from Microsoft Store (for example, Hulu, Netflix, and Vudu).
For these apps, you can control video playback using the video playback settings in Windows. For example, you can have your PC process video to enhance it (depending on your PC’s hardware) or choose to play video at a lower resolution to help save network bandwidth.
To open the video playback settings, select the Start button, then enter Settings. Select Settings > Apps > Video playback.
: Different refresh rates on multiple monitors can cause your video display to malfunction. Video playback might stall or start and stop repeatedly rather than play smoothly. This can happen whether the external monitor is physically attached or wirelessly attached via Miracast. If you experience issues with video playback, adjust the display refresh rate so that all of your monitors have the same refresh rate.
