My calls keep dropping in Microsoft Teams

If you’re experiencing multiple dropped calls or you’re getting disconnected from a Teams meeting, it's likely due to network issues. You might encounter error messages like:

"Please hold on while we try to reconnect you," or "I was placed on hold during a meeting."

In both the above cases, first check your internet connection. Make sure both the caller and callee have a stable connection.

Additional steps to try:

  • Sign out of Teams by selecting your profile picture at the top right of Teams and then selecting Sign out. Once Teams closes, open it again and sign in with your email and password.

  • Uninstall Teams from your device, then reinstall it.

  • If you’re using a VPN to access Teams, turn it off and back on.

  • If you’re using the Teams desktop or mobile app, try using the web version: https://teams.microsoft.com/.

  • Restart your WiFi modem.

  • Check the official Microsoft Twitter account for service incidents to see if there are any known issues: https://twitter.com/MSFT365Status.

For further troubleshooting, follow the steps in this article: Troubleshoot User Call Quality Problems.

Additionally, you can check for ongoing service incidents here: Microsoft 365 Service Status.

Call drops can also occur if you’re using unsupported non-certified devices. For example, if your call drops when clicking on a call notification, or when resuming a call from hold. For the best experience please ensure your headsets and/or other audio devices are officially certified: Teams Certified Devices.
