Learn how to set up and use your Microsoft Modern Webcam in Microsoft Teams.

Mount your Microsoft Modern Webcam

Mount your Microsoft Modern Webcam the way you want—depending on your PC and the set up in your home or office. Here are three different ways to mount your webcam.

On your display

Place your Microsoft Modern Webcam on top of your external display or laptop display. Rotate the base of your webcam up, so your camera sits securely on top.

On your desk

Place your Microsoft Modern Webcam on top of your desk or table, so the base is flat on it.

On a tripod

Take a small tripod (not included), and then screw the tripod screw into the tripod thread (#1 in the following image) on the bottom of your Microsoft Modern Webcam. Place the small tripod near your PC.

Set up the built-in microphone on Microsoft Modern Webcam

Microsoft Modern Webcam is Certified for Microsoft Teams with the default settings, which includes the built-in microphone turned off. If you turn on the built-in microphone in the Microsoft Accessory Center app, that could affect certification. You can still use the microphone and speakers on your PC for audio during Teams meetings and calls.

If you want to use the built-in microphone, here's how to turn it on:

  1. Download the Microsoft Accessory Center app.

  2. Plug in your Microsoft Modern Webcam.

  3. In Microsoft Accessory Center, select Modern Webcam.

  4. Select Webcam settings, then turn on Webcam microphone.

Set up Microsoft Modern Webcam in Microsoft Teams

  1. In Microsoft Teams, select Settings and more Teams settings and more icon. to the left of your profile picture at the top, then select Settings .

  2. In Settings, select Devices.

  3. Under Camera, select Microsoft Modern Webcam.

  4. To physically adjust the camera, hold the base of camera in one hand. With your other hand, hold the top of the camera, and then tilt it up or down until you appear how you want in the Preview window. The LED light on the front of your webcam will appear solid white when your camera is in use.

Make a video call

Select Calls, dial the number for the person you want to call, then select Call. Select Camera to appear on camera.

Join a meeting and appear on camera

Select Calendar > the meeting > Join. Turn on Camera, then select Join now in Teams to join the meeting with your camera on.

Use the privacy shutter

Microsoft Modern Webcam has a privacy shutter to help you protect your privacy. When you don’t want the camera to record you, slide the privacy shutter over the lens any time.

Get the Microsoft Accessory Center app

The Microsoft Accessory Center app lets you customize the settings for your Microsoft Modern Webcam, so you get the most from it. You can download the Microsoft Accessory Center app from the Microsoft Store and install it on your Windows 10/11 PC.
