Add an open shift
Open shifts are shifts that aren’t assigned to anyone. Each schedule group in a schedule has an Open shifts row where you can add open shifts.
You can add open shifts now and assign them to a team member later as part of your schedule planning or you can share open shifts with the team so people can request to work them.-
In the schedule, go to the Open shifts row in the schedule group to which you want to add an open shift.
-
Under the date that you want, select More options > Add open shift, or double-click the empty shift.
-
Fill out the information for the shift, including the following:
-
Number of slots to make available.
-
Start and end times.
-
If you’re using the open shifts available across locations feature, turn on the Open shift across locations toggle if you want to make the shift available to people at other locations (teams) to request.
-
If you want, add a custom label to name the shift so it’s easy to tell apart from other shifts. By default, the shift name is its start and end time.
-
A theme color to organize things.
-
Unpaid break time, as needed.
-
Shift notes, as needed. For example, include tasks that need to be completed.
-
Daily activities or additional breaks in Shifts activities. Use activities for anything you need to schedule during the shift, like a lunch break.

Choose Save to save the shift (without sharing it) or choose Share if you’re ready to save and share the shift with the team member.

-
Under the date that you want, select Add new note, and then add your note.
