Applies ToOutlook for Microsoft 365 New Outlook for Windows

You can add a Yahoo! account to Microsoft Outlook, to view and manage your email in one place.

Select a tab option below for the version of Outlook you're using. What version of Outlook do I have?

Note: If the steps under this New Outlook tab don't work, you may not be using new Outlook for Windows yet. Select Classic Outlook and follow those steps instead.

In Outlook, you have the option to:

Add a new Yahoo account  |  Set Yahoo account as primary  |  Delete existing Yahoo account

Add a new Yahoo email account in new Outlook

  1. On the View tab, select View settings.

  2. Select Accounts, then Email accounts.Screenshot of Settings showing Accounts > Email accounts

    Tip: If your Settings window doesn't look like this, you might be using classic Outlook.

  3. Select + Add Account.

  4. Enter the Yahoo! account you want to add and select Continue.

  5. On Sync your Yahoo account, select Continue.

  6. A new tab to Sign in using your Yahoo account will open in your web browser. Follow the prompts to complete signing in, including any two-factor authentication prompts you set up for this account.

  7. After you've added your password and followed any two-factor authentication prompts, the Yahoo! account permissions window appears. Select Agree.

  8. From the web browser pop-up window with the message, https://outlook.office.com wants to open this application, select Open.

  9. Select the email folder for your Yahoo email address in Outlook and select the Inbox to view emails sent to this address.

Set the Yahoo account as the primary account in new Outlook

Note: If the steps under this New Outlook tab don't work, you may not be using new Outlook for Windows yet. Select the Classic Outlook tab and follow those steps instead.

  1. On the View tab, select View settings.

  2. Select Accounts, then Email accounts.

    Tip: If your Settings window doesn't look like this, you might be using classic Outlook.

  3. Find the account you want to set as a primary account, and then beside the account name, select Manage.

  4. Select the Set as primary account option.

  5. Close the Settings window.

Delete the existing Yahoo account from new Outlook

Note: If the steps under this New Outlook tab don't work, you may not be using new Outlook for Windows yet. Select the Classic Outlook tab and follow those steps instead.

  1. On the View tab, select View settings.

  2. Select Accounts, then Email accounts.

    Tip: If your Settings window doesn't look like this, you might be using classic Outlook.

  3. Find the account you want to delete, and then beside the account name, select Manage.

  4. Select the Remove option. You can select to remove the account from this device or all devices.

  5. Close the Settings window.

In Outlook, you have the option to:

Add a new Yahoo email account in classic Outlook

  1. Select File.

  2. Select + Add Account.

  3. Enter the Yahoo! account you want to add and select Connect.

  4. A new window to Sign in using your Yahoo account will open. Follow the prompts to complete signing in, including any two-factor authentication prompts you set up for this account.

  5. Once you’ve added your password, and followed any two-factor authentication prompts, the Yahoo! account permissions window appears. Select Agree.

  6. A window indicating the account was successfully added will appear. Select Done.

    Note: Uncheck the Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone, too option if you don’t want to use Outlook Mobile on your phone.

  7. Select the email folder for your yahoo email address in Outlook and select the Inbox to view emails sent to this address.

Set the Yahoo account as the primary account in classic Outlook

  1. Select File.

  2. Select Account Settings, then Account Settings.

  3. Select the Yahoo email account you want to set as the primary account.

  4. Select the Set as Default option.

  5. Select Close.

Remove an existing Yahoo account from classic Outlook

  1. Select File.

  2. Select Account Settings, then Account Settings.

  3. Select the Yahoo email account you want to remove.

  4. Select the Remove option.

  5. Select OK if a prompt appears, and then select Close.
