From Teams on the desktop or web, you can download any file you see in Teams—whether it’s in a channel, sent in a message, or stored in a OneDrive folder.

Download a Teams file to access it anytime, anywhere.

Download a file in a channel

To download a file from a Teams channel:

  1. Open a channel in Teams.

  2. Select the Files tab.

  3. Find the file you want to download and select More actions More options button > Download.

Download a file from OneDrive

To download a file from OneDrive in Teams:

  1.  In Teams, select OneDrive  OneDrive icon.

  2. Find the file you want to download and and select More actions  more actions button-duplicate > Open > Edit in Teams.

  3. When the file opens, select File > Create a Copy  Copy link button > Download a Copy  Download button.

    • This option may not be available, depending on permissions set by the file owner.

You can also select a file from My files in OneDrive  OneDrive icon and select More actions  more actions button-duplicateDownload.

Change where to save downloaded files

  1. In Teams for desktop, select Settings and more  Microsoft Teams more options icon.

  2. Select Settings  Settings button​​​​​​​> Files and links  Icon used on Pages tab in Journal.

  3. Under Downloads > Location, select Change.

  4. Choose where you want to save files and select Select Folder.

  5. Turn the Always ask where to save downloaded file toggle on to choose where to save files each time you download one. 

​​​​​​​Any future files you download from Teams will be saved to the location you specified.

Note: This action isn't currently supported on Teams for web or mobile.
