Microsoft 365 Family subscribers can share subscription benefits with up to five other people in their family group by sending an email or copying & sharing a link.

  • Sharing is only possible if the invitee joins the subscription owners' family group.

  • Once the invitee has joined the family group, then the subscription owner can share the Microsoft 365 Family benefits. If the invitee is already in another family group, they will need to leave it to join the subscription owners' family group.

  • Do not share your Microsoft 365 Family product key. Product keys cannot be used for sharing your subscription, please use the steps below to send an email or link to each person you want to share with.

How to share your Microsoft 365 Family subscription

If the person you want to share your Microsoft 365 Family subscription with is already in your family group, then you can jump to "Step 2. Share your subscription with family group members" below.

If they are not yet in your family group, send them an email invitation or link to join your family group. If they are already in another family group, they will need to leave it to join yours.

  1. Go to your Microsoft account dashboard's Services & subscriptions sharing page.Sign in

  2. Select Share.

If you don't see the Start sharing button, you may not be the owner of the Microsoft 365 Family subscription. If you're using a Microsoft 365 Family subscription that someone else shared with you, or if you have another type of Microsoft 365 subscription, you can't share your subscription with other people.

  3. Choose how you'd like to share,

    1. Select  Email invite then enter their email and select Invite.

    2. Select  Create link then select Copy link. You can then paste the link in an email, text, or other message and send it to those you want to share with.

      • When you share your subscription with someone, they get an email from Microsoft telling them that you've shared your Microsoft 365 Family subscription with them.

      • Each person you’ve shared with will need to select Get started in the email they receive to go to their Microsoft Family Safety site. If they don't have a Microsoft account, they'll be prompted to create one in order to move on.

      • They should then select Join now to accept the invitation to join your family group before they can access the benefits of your Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

      • If you need to send an invitation again, find their name, and choose Resend invite.

  4. They will need to accept your invitation within 48 hours. During this time, you will see "Pending invite" in your Microsoft 365 Family dashboard.

Their "Start using Microsoft 365 apps" won't work until you complete the next step.

Once they have selected "Join now" and joined your family group, your Microsoft 365 Family subscription dashboard will update to "Start sharing". Select the link to share your subscription benefits.

  1. Go to your Microsoft account dashboard's Services & subscriptions sharing page.Share subscription

  2. Choose the family group members you have not yet shared with, and select  Start sharing.

Once you have shared, they can select the Install Microsoft 365 on all your devices option one their account dashboard to install Microsoft 365 and access their OneDrive storage.
