Highlights

  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements. When you install this KB:

  • This update affects the version of curl.exe that isin Windows. The version number is now 8.7.1.

  • This update addresses an issue that affects lsass.exe. It stops responding. This occurs after you install the April 2024 security updates on Windows servers.

  • This update addresses an issue that affects lsass.exe. It leaks memory. This occurs during a Local Security Authority (Domain Policy) Remote Protocol (LSARPC) call.

  • Starting in this update, File Explorer adds the Mark of the Web (MoTW) tag to files and folders that come from untrusted locations. When MapUrlToZone classifies a file as “Internet,” that file also gets this tag. Because of this change, the “LastWriteTime” time stamp is updated. This might affect some scenarios that rely on file copy operations.

If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Windows 10 servicing stack update (KB5039335) - 17763.5920

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Symptom

Workaround

After installing KB5039217, released June 11, 2024, you might observe a change in language for context menus and dialog buttons in Windows applications. Parts of the UI might display in English when English is not set as the Windows display language. In addition, font size might change for the names of tabs and buttons.

For instance, you might see the language change when you right click on a Windows application such as Notepad or Explorer. You might observe that the Notepad menu is displayed in the system’s set display language but the entries in the context menu appear in English. Similarly, when you right click a file in Explorer and select the Properties option from the menu, the ‘OK’, ‘Cancel’ and ‘Apply’ buttons might be displayed in English.

This issue is not likely to be encountered by Windows Home users since the Windows version affected by this issue reached end of servicing for Home and Pro editions years ago. The affected version has supported editions for organizations and IT environments.

This issue is addressed in KB5040430.

How to get this update

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.
