How much free storage do I have?
The amount of free storage for you to upload and share documents, PDFs, and other data on Microsoft Teams (free) is 5 GB. Images and videos are not saved on OneDrive and don’t have a storage limit. You can share as many photos and videos as you want.
When you attach a file or other data to a message in a chat or community, the file is uploaded to the Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder in your OneDrive. After the file is uploaded, a link generates for you to share with anyone. The link is embedded in your message so that it doesn't show the exact URL location of your OneDrive. Anyone that has access to the link can view and edit the file.

The options to upload data to Microsoft Teams (free) depend on what type of data you want to share.

Frequently asked questions
If I share a file in a community, can everyone access it?
Yes. After you upload and share the link, everyone in the community can access the file. This includes members who joined after you sent the file and former members of the community who still have the link.
After I share data in a community, where is it stored?
If you share data in a community, the data is uploaded to the Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder in your personal OneDrive.

Do I have to download a file on my device to view a share file in a community?
No. Microsoft Teams (free) supports many file types (images, video, PowerPoint, PDF, and more). To open a file, select the file you want to see, and it will open within the app. To edit a file, select the file you want to edit, and Microsoft Teams (free) redirects you to the Office app to make edits.
Only unsupported files such as zip or .exe require a download to view them.
After I reach my 5 GB storage limit, can I still access the files shared in the community?
Yes. You'll still have access to the files shared by the rest of the community, but you can no longer attach files to messages. Your previous attachment will still be accessible to the community.
What is the maximum file size limit that I can share in communities?
When you attach a file or other data to a message in a chat or community, the file is uploaded to the Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder in your OneDrive. The upload and download sizes for individual files in OneDrive is 250 GB.
Images and videos are not saved in OneDrive and don’t have a storage limit. You can share as many photos and videos as you want.
Do my chat messages have limits?
Chat messages don’t have limits. Make sure to keep track of the files you attach to your chats since files still have a personal storage limit of 5 GB.

If I leave the community, will all my file shares get deleted?
No. The files remain in the community unless you delete them. If you want to delete the files, go into your Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder, and delete the files you want to remove from the community. The original messages remain in the chat, but if someone tries to open the file, it will not work.
