Loop components
Loop components are available to anyone with access to Teams, Outlook, Word Online, Whiteboard, OneNote, SharePoint, OneDrive, Loop, and other supported Microsoft apps.
Loop app
Most features of Microsoft Loop are available to everyone with a work or school account (Microsoft Entra account, formerly Azure Active Directory account). Anyone with access to the Loop app can view Loop pages and components, view the Loop components they've recently used across other apps like Teams and Outlook, view Loop workspaces to which they've been added, and more.
To have access to all Loop app features, users with work accounts (Microsoft Entra accounts) need one of the following Microsoft 365 plans:
-
Microsoft 365 Business Standard
-
Microsoft 365 Business Premium
-
Microsoft 365 E3
-
Microsoft 365 E5
-
Microsoft 365 A3
-
Microsoft 365 A5
-
Microsoft 365 E3, E5, A3, or A5 Extra Features; when combined with a corresponding Office 365 or Microsoft 365 plan.
Having one of those Microsoft 365 plans enables three additional capabilities in the Loop app:
-
Creating new Loop workspaces
-
Adding members to Loop workspaces
-
Removing members from Loop workspaces
Users with only an Office 365 E3, E5, A3, or A5 plan do not qualify for access to those additional capabilities. A Microsoft 365 E3, E5, A3, or A5 plan and/or Microsoft 365 Extra Features plan is required.
Users with a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 E3 or E5 plan who still don't have access to those capabilities in the Loop app likely need to enable the Extra Features license. Learn how to enable the Extra Features license here. This license is available at no charge and is required for original adopters of Microsoft 365 E3 and E5.
IT administrators who set organizational policy can enable or disable the ability to create new Loop workspaces or Loop pages and components.
Loop app Public Preview grace period
To make Loop's transition out of Public Preview easier, organizations (Microsoft Entra tenants) in which at least one user used the Loop app Public Preview during 2023 are included in a grace period. During the grace period, all users in the organization will have access to all Loop app features like they did during the Loop app Public Preview: namely creating new workspaces and adding/removing members to workspaces.
This grace period will end on December 31, 2024, at which point all users will have access to Loop app features based on their Microsoft 365 plan. As described above, all users will still be able to access their existing pages and workspaces, view components from other apps, and more. The only capabilities that may be lost after the grace period are creating new workspaces, adding members to workspaces, and removing members from workspaces.
Copilot in the Loop app for work or school accounts
A Copilot for Microsoft 365 plan is required to use Copilot features in the Loop app.
The Loop apps for iOS, Android, and the web are available to anyone with a personal Microsoft account.
Loop components are not yet supported in Teams, Outlook, or other apps when used with a personal Microsoft account.
Loop and Microsoft storage
During the Loop app Public Preview, Loop workspaces and pages created in the Loop app did not count towards personal or organizational storage quotas.
As of June 25, 2024, Loop workspaces and pages will now count towards an individual's Microsoft storage quota. Loop workspaces no longer have a 5GB maximum size.
Caution: If you exceed your Microsoft cloud storage, you will not be able to send or receive email. Learn more.
Copilot in Loop for personal accounts
Copilot is not available in Loop for personal Microsoft accounts. A Copilot Pro plan will not enable any Copilot features in Loop.
