Keep your chat list organized and focused by hiding chats or leaving chat threads in Teams. You can hide a one-on-one chat or leave group and meeting chats. Leaving a chat removes it from your chat list, and you can no longer send messages in this chat. To delete individual messages from a chat thread, see Edit or delete a sent message in Teams.

To hide one-on-one chats:

  1. In your list of chats and channels, go to the chat you want to change.

  2. For a one-on-one chat, select More options Microsoft teams More options icon. > Hide Hide chat button. You can no longer see the chat.

To leave a group or meeting chat:

  1. Go to the chat you want to change and select More options Microsoft teams More options icon. > Leave Teams leave chat icon.

  2. Select the check box to confirm that you want to remove chat history from your chat and search lists when you leave. Select Leave.

If you're a meeting owner, you can't delete or leave the meeting chat. However, if you're a participant in the meeting chat, you can delete or leave it.

Note: Leaving chats is part of the public preview program. It might undergo further changes before being released publicly. To get access to this and other upcoming features, switch to Teams public preview.
