Project Manager and Microsoft Loop
Applies To
Microsoft PlannerNote: Project Manager (preview) is currently rolling out to customers. Learn more about it in Frequently asked questions about Project Manager.
Loop Workspaces
When a Project Manager plan is created, a new Microsoft Loop workspace is also created and linked to the plan. This workspace will store all Project Manager agent task output in individual Loop pages. To access the Loop workspace via the Planner app:
-
Select Loop in the plan header.
Tip: If you don't see Loop in the main header, select the overflow (...) menu, and then select Loop.
-
You'll be navigated to the Loop workspace associated with the plan where you can see all added files in the side pane of the workspace.
You can navigate back to the associated Project Manager plan from the associated Loop workspace. Simply select Planner in the sidebar of the Loop workspace.
Microsoft 365 Group Ownership
The Loop workspace that is created alongside the plan is owned by the same Microsoft 365 group that the plan is owned by. This means only members of that group will be able to access the Loop workspace. If you'd like to give additional access to the workspace, the intended users will need to be added to the group to gain access. Likewise, if you'd like to revoke access, the intended users will need to be removed from the group. Learn more about Microsoft 365 groups.
When a Microsoft 365 group is deleted, any associated Loop workspaces and plans will become inaccessible. If the group is restored within 30 days of deletion, the Loop workspace and plan access will be restored as well. If a different group is added to the plan after the original group is deleted, all Loop pages and files associated with that plan will be removed.
Loop Pages
A Loop page will be created within the plan’s associated Loop workspace for each task that the Project Manager executes. This page will contain the Project Manager’s output and be accessible from both the Loop workspace and task detail view for the associated task within Planner.
Within these pages, you can use features that are available in Loop, including:
-
Adding Loop components
-
Commenting
-
@ mentioning
-
And more!

Page Deletion
Deleting a task in Planner will not automatically delete the associated Loop page. If you'd like to delete the associated page, you'll need to do so within Loop, itself.
-
Navigate to the page within Loop.
-
Select More options (…) in the top right of the page.
-
Select Delete.
-
Choose Delete in the confirmation pop-up.
Important: If you delete a Loop page associated with a task that hasn't been deleted in Planner, the Project Manager will no longer be able to execute that task. If you'd like the Project Manager to regenerate the page, you'll need to recreate the task and assign the new task to the Project Manager.
