The Start1 through Start10 fields are custom fields that show any specific task, resource, or assignment start date information you want to enter and store separately in your project.

There are several categories of Start1-10 fields.

Data Type    Date

Start1-10 (task fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

Best Uses    Use one or more custom start fields to enter and store additional start date information for tasks (for example, from additional baseline or interim plans or for a projected milestone or phase start date). You might want to use a custom start field in conjunction with a custom finish field. This field is useful for noting important dates on the Gantt Chart.

Example    You've set a baseline for your project and are displaying the Baseline Start field in a task table. Three months into the project, you adjust the project plan to account for significant changes. You save an interim plan and include the interim plan's start date in the Start1 field, naming it "Interim Start." You add that field to the task table as well.

Remarks    Dates in the custom start fields do not affect Project calculations. If no date is entered, the field contains "NA."

You can use custom finish and start fields to store additional baseline finish and start dates. You can save pairs of start and finish dates as interim plans in the Set Baseline dialog box.

You can create value lists, formulas, and graphical indicators for the custom Start fields. You can add one of these custom attributes or to rename the Start field in the Custom Fields dialog box. Specifying a formula causes the field to become read-only.

You can copy the custom fields you create to other project files in the Organizer dialog box.

Start1-10 (resource fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

Best Uses    Use one or more custom start fields to enter and store additional start date information for resources (for example, from additional baseline or interim plans). You might want to use a custom start field in conjunction with a custom finish field.

Example    You've set a baseline for your project and are displaying the Baseline Start field in a resource view to indicate the overall dates when resources start working on assignments. Three months into the project, you make adjustments to account for significant changes. You save an interim plan, and include the interim plan's start date in the Start1 field, and then add that field to the resource view as well.

Remarks    Dates in the custom start fields do not affect Project calculations. If no date is entered, the field contains "NA."
