The Remaining Overtime Cost fields show the remaining scheduled overtime expense for a task, resource, or assignment.

There are several categories of Remaining Overtime Cost fields.

Data Type    Currency

Remaining Overtime Cost (task field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    When you first create a task, the Remaining Overtime Cost field is the same as the contents of the Overtime Cost field. Once a resource begins work on the task and reports actual overtime work, Microsoft Office Project calculates the remaining overtime work for all assigned resources on the task. Remaining overtime cost for the task is the sum of all remaining overtime costs for all assigned resources.

Best Uses    Add the Remaining Overtime Cost field to a task sheet to review how much is yet to be spent for overtime for a task.

Example    A task will require 10 hours of overtime for two resources with overtime rates of $30 per hour. At the start of the task, the remaining overtime is $300. When the resources report two hours of actual overtime ($60), the remaining overtime work is eight hours and the remaining overtime cost becomes $240.

Remarks    The remaining overtime cost calculation is based on the Overtime Rate field for the resource and the amount of overtime work assigned to the resource for the task.

Remaining Overtime Cost (resource field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    When you first add a resource, the Remaining Overtime Cost field is the same as the contents of the Overtime Cost field. Once a resource begins work on assigned tasks and reports actual overtime work, Microsoft Office Project calculates the remaining overtime work and then calculates the remaining overtime cost as follows:

Remaining Overtime Cost = Remaining Overtime Work * Overtime Rate

Best Uses    Add the Remaining Overtime Cost field to a resource sheet to review how much is yet to be spent for overtime for a resource.

Example    You're tracking costs for a resource with an overtime rate of $30 per hour. You assign the resource to many different tasks throughout the duration of the project and schedule 40 hours of overtime work. Before the resource begins reporting actual overtime work, the remaining overtime cost for all tasks assigned to the resource is $1,200. Then, the resource reports 6 hours of overtime work on one task and 4 hours of overtime work on another task for 10 hours of actual overtime work, or $300 of actual overtime cost. The remaining overtime cost changes from $1,200 to $900.

Remarks    The remaining overtime cost calculation is based on the Overtime Rate field for the resource and the amount of overtime work assigned to the resource.

Remaining Overtime Cost (assignment field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    When an assignment is first made, the Remaining Overtime Cost field is the same as the contents of the Overtime Cost field. Once a resource begins work on the task and reports actual overtime work, Microsoft Office Project calculates the remaining overtime work and then calculates the remaining overtime cost as follows:

Remaining Overtime Cost = Remaining Overtime Work * Overtime Rate

Best Uses    Add the Remaining Overtime Cost field to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view to review how much is yet to be spent for overtime for an assignment.

Example    An assignment will require 10 hours of overtime for a resource with a rate of $30 per hour. At the start of the assignment, the remaining overtime is $300. When the resource reports two hours of actual overtime ($60), the remaining overtime work is eight hours and the remaining overtime cost becomes $240.

Remarks    The remaining overtime cost calculation is based on the Overtime Rate field for the resource and the amount of overtime work assigned to the resource for the task.
