The Overtime Work field contains the amount of overtime scheduled to be performed by all resources assigned to a task, for all tasks assigned to a resource, or by a resource on a task, and charged at the overtime rates of the resources involved. The timephased versions of these fields show values distributed over time.

There are several categories of Overtime Work fields.

Data Type    Duration

Overtime Work (task field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    When a task is first created, the Overtime Work field shows "0 hrs." When you enter scheduled overtime work in the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view for the assignment, Microsoft Office Project rolls up these overtime work hours and enters the total overtime work for the task into this field.

Best Uses    Add the Overtime Work field to a task sheet to review or filter for scheduled overtime on a task.

Example    The "Write proposal" task has a five-day duration with 40 hours of work assigned to Chris alone. You want to shorten the duration, but there are no other resources to assign to the task. You add eight hours of overtime work to the assignment. There are still 40 hours of work, but the duration is now four days, with eight hours of overtime work spread across the task.

Remarks    You can edit overtime work in the Overtime Work assignment field in the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view. You can also edit overtime work in the Work view of the Task Form or Resource Form.

Overtime Work (resource field)

Best Uses    Add the Overtime Work field to any resource sheet to display or filter for overtime work for a resource.

Example    Your team is scheduled to work a lot of overtime in the next three months. You want to gather data to justify hiring temporary staff to help with the project. You add the Overtime Work field to the Resource Sheet view to review the amount of scheduled overtime for the resources.
