Copilot in Outlook is deeply integrated into the app, allowing you to retrieve information contextually and take action, all while being able to use Outlook side by side with chat. It supports conversations about your organization's data, information from the web, questions about an email you're viewing, and even allows you to take action directly in Outlook.
Note: Chat with Copilot is only available in new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web. Business Chat (BizChat) is available on other Outlook clients, read more: Get started with Microsoft 365 Copilot Business Chat
Here are some ideas for how Copilot in Outlook can help.
Ask questions about this email
-
Summarize this email - Need to get to the essence of the email quickly? Select an email and type Summarize this email into the Copilot chat pane to get a bulleted summary.
-
Is there a call to action? - Wondering if the document contains a meaningful call to action? Ask Copilot, and it'll attempt to tell you.
Take action in Outlook
Note: Below are some current actions you can take, and we’re always adding new capabilities.
-
Create an email draft to [People] about [Prompt] – Want to start a quick email or reply to a selected email? Instruct Copilot to start the draft, and optionally provide recipients, subject, and content. You can select people by typing “/” in chat. Want Copilot to help write your email? Instead of writing the entire content, provide a prompt and Copilot will start an email and automatically enter Draft with Copilot to generate an email.
-
Set up an automatic reply for [Date/Time] – Heading out on vacation or have an appointment where you won’t be available? Ask Copilot to set up automatic replies and optionally provide the dates and times you want to enable this for. An interactive card will appear in chat allowing you to modify, confirm, or jump to settings for more in-depth control.
-
Create a rule to [Action] for [Condition] – Looking to organize your emails? Ask Copilot to create an inbox rule. Tell it what you want to happen to those emails (move to folders, flag for follow up, etc…) and tell it which emails those actions should apply to (emails from [Person], etc…). Copilot will always ask you for confirmation before creating the rule and give you a link to manage your rules. For more information about managing rules see Use rules to manage your email.
Tip: Want a wider chat window to see more info on screen? Click the Expand pane button in the chat header.
As with Copilot throughout Microsoft 365, you can ask questions that are grounded in enterprise data and web content. To see even more suggestions of what you can ask, select the View prompts button in the chat input box.
Note: If you’d like to remove web content from your results, select Manage search and plug-ins from the chat input box.
