Use a screen reader with Safe in Teams for personal and small business use

Use Microsoft Teams with VoiceOver, the built-in iOS screen reader, to use Safe to store passwords and other sensitive information across multiple devices.

Set up Safe

The first time you access Safe with your account, you are prompted to create a four-digit PIN to keep the contents secure.

  1. In Microsoft Teams, swipe right until you hear the currently open tab. If the Safe tab has been added to your tab bar, swipe right until you hear "Safe," and double-tap the screen. If you don't hear "Safe," you might have to add the Safe tab to the tab bar first. For instructions, refer to Add the Safe tab to the tab bar.

  2. To set up Safe, swipe right until you hear "Continue," and double-tap the screen.

  3. You are asked whether you want to have your recovery key saved with your Microsoft account. Swipe right until you hear: "Continue." If you want to opt out of having your recovery key saved, swipe left once, and double-tap the screen, then swipe right once. Double-tap the screen to proceed.

  4. You are prompted to create a four-digit PIN that is used to unlock your Safe. Enter it using the on-screen numerical keyboard. You need to enter the same four digits twice for your PIN to be accepted.

  5. Once your PIN has been accepted, you are taken to the main view of the Safe tab.

Add the Safe tab to the tab bar 

  1. Swipe right until you hear "More," and double-tap the screen.

  2. Swipe left until you hear "Reorder," and double-tap the screen to open the Edit navigation pane.

  3. In the Edit navigation pane, swipe right until you hear "Reorder Safe," then double-tap and hold until you hear a sound cue from your device. Move your finger towards the top of the device until you hear "Moved to section one," and lift your finger.

  4. Swipe left until you hear "Done," and double-tap the screen.

Store and browse secure information

  1. To open the Safe tab, swipe right until you hear "Safe, tab," then double-tap the screen.

  2. You are prompted to enter the four-digit PIN you created during Set up Safe. Enter it using the on-screen numerical keyboard.

  3. The Safe main page opens. Swipe right or left until you hear "Add new item," and double-tap the screen.

  4. Choose the kind of item you want to add to your safe by swiping right until you hear the type you want, and double-tap the screen.

    You can add items such as login information, secure notes, passwords, passport information and email account credentials. Each item type contains a text field for the item name and one or more additional text fields.

  5. For each text field in the item, swipe right until you hear the field name, followed by "Text field," then double-tap the screen and use the on-screen keyboard to enter the contents of the field.

    Note: The Item name field is mandatory for all item types.

  6. Once you've filled in all the fields you want, swipe left until you hear "Save," and double-tap the screen.

  7. Items you've added to Safe are listed in the Safe tab. You can browse between them by swiping left or right until you hear the one you want, and open them by double-tapping the screen.
