Use a screen reader to save an image or attachment from an email in Mail
Applies ToMail for Windows 10

This article is for people who use a screen reader program such as Windows Narrator, JAWS, or NVDA with Microsoft 365 products. This article is part of the Microsoft 365 screen reader support content set where you can find more accessibility information on our apps. For general help, visit Microsoft Support.

Use Mail for Windows 10 with your keyboard and a screen reader to save an attached file from an email to your device. We have tested it with Narrator, JAWS, and NVDA, but it might work with other screen readers as long as they follow common accessibility standards and techniques.

Notes:

Save an attachment from an email

  1. Open the email message that contains the attachment you want to save to your device.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To save all attachments in the mail to the same folder, press the Tab key until you hear "Save all attachments," and then press Enter. The Windows Select Folder dialog box opens.

    • If there's only one attachment or you want to save the attachments one by one into different folders, press the Tab key until you hear "Open," followed by the attachment file name. If you have multiple attachments, use the arrow keys to browse to the file you want to save. Then press Shift+F10 or the Windows Menu key to open the context menu. Press the Down arrow key until you hear "Save, button," and press Enter. The Windows Save As dialog box opens.

Press the Right arrow key to expand a folder and the Left arrow key to collapse a folder. To select a folder, press Enter.

  4. When on the folder you want, do one of the following:

    • If you are saving multiple files, press the Tab key until you hear "Select folder, button," and press Enter to save the files.
