Microsoft 365 automatically applies superscript formatting to the ends of ordinal numbers, which are numbers that show the relative position of something in a sequence, such as 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and so on.

Here's how you can stop the automatic formatting by canceling superscript mode.

In PowerPoint

  1. Select File> Options.

  2. Select Proofing, and under AutoCorrect options, select AutoCorrect Options.

  3. On the AutoFormat As You Type tab, clear the Ordinals (1st) with superscript check box to prevent the app from applying superscript formatting to numbers.

In Outlook

  1. Select File> Options > Mail > and under Compose messages, select Editor Options.

  2. Select Proofing, and under AutoCorrect options, select AutoCorrect Options.

  3. On the AutoFormat As You Type tab, clear the Ordinals (1st) with superscript check box to prevent the app from applying superscript formatting to numbers.
