Troubleshoot OneDrive for Android app problems

We're sorry you're having trouble with your OneDrive for Android mobile app. Let's get the issue sorted out as quickly as possible.

For all OneDrive mobile sync, sharing, and upload issues, make sure you can connect to the Internet. Some apps and features may only work with Wi-Fi, depending on your device settings, or your mobile data plan.

As of 7/30/21, to use the Whiteboard sharing feature, Android users must be on app version 6.17 or greater. Please update to the latest version to use the Whiteboard sharing feature. Note that this feature is only available for OneDrive for work or school accounts, and not home and personal plans.

If your camera upload has stopped, it could be because you have too many photos in your camera roll, or that you are out of storage space. Check the status of your Microsoft storage on the Me Person icon in OneDrive app for iOS tab. Learn more.

If automatic camera upload isn’t working, or only some pictures are uploaded, follow these steps:

  1. In the OneDrive app, tap the Me Person icon in OneDrive app for iOS  then Settings OneDrive settings then Camera upload.

  2. Check that Camera upload toggle is switched on OneDrive app toggle.

  3. Check the Camera upload account is the correct account.

  4. If you're not connected to Wi-Fi, check Upload using is set to include mobile network.

  5. Check that the Upload only when charging checkbox isn't selected.

  6. If your videos are not showing in your camera roll, check that Include videos is set on.

  7. On This Day albums will only show if you have taken 10 or more photos on that day.

  8. If Samsung Gallery upload isn’t working, read about Samsung Gallery and OneDrive.

If your camera roll is missing some photos, it may be because multiple photos have the same timestamp. This can happen if you take burst photos, or receive multiple photos from messaging apps.

To ensure all your photos are uploaded to OneDrive, follow these steps:

  1. Open your OneDrive mobile app.

  2. Go to Files and browse to where you want the photos to be.

  3. Select   to add the missing file(s).

Note: You can also upload photos by sharing them to your OneDrive from within your Gallery or Photos app.

The OneDrive app does not sync files automatically.

The OneDrive app lets you upload your camera roll and other pictures and lets you download any files you have at OneDrive.com.

Note: Some apps and features may only work with Wi-Fi, depending on your device settings, or your mobile data plan.

Here's how to set a ringtone from a OneDrive music file.

  1. From any Home screen on your device, tap Apps > Settings > Sounds and Notifications > Ringtone.

  2. To use your own music file, scroll all the way to the bottom, then select Add ringtone.

  3. Tap Complete action using: OneDrive, then tap Just once, if prompted.

  4. Select the music file, and then tap Done.

  5. If you want to set a ringtone from your device rather than from OneDrive, you may have to clear the OneDrive app defaults.

  6. Go into Settings > Apps.

  7. Scroll down and then tap OneDrive.

  8. Scroll down and then tap Clear Defaults, and you're done.

After you clear the OneDrive defaults, you should be able to use the Sound Picker whenever you choose OneDrive files as ringtones, instead of going to OneDrive.

If sync doesn't work, OneDrive is not launching, or OneDrive is crashing, please try to re-install OneDrive:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Select Applications.

  3. Tap Manage Applications.

  4. Find and tap OneDrive.

  5. Tap Force Stop and then tap Clear data and Clear cache.

  6. Once completed, uninstall the app.

  7. Reinstall the app from Google Play.

The file might be open in another app. Save any changes to the file, close the app, and then try to upload the file again.

The file name (including the path) is too long. The filename and path must contain fewer than 442 characters. Shorten the name of your file or the name of subfolders in OneDrive, or select a subfolder that's closer to the top-level folder, and then try to upload the file again.

The file might have been moved, renamed, or deleted before you tried to upload it. Locate the file, and then try to upload it again.

Tip: You may receive this message if you have moved the file on your computer after an automatic upload has occurred.

A file won't upload if it doesn't fit in your available OneDrive storage space. To see how much space you have remaining or get more storage, tap Menu > Settings and then tap your account name to see your total storage and space available. Alternatively, go to your Storage page online.

Rename the file you're uploading.

The filename contains characters that aren't allowed. Change its name so that it doesn’t begin or end with a space, end with a period, or include any of these characters / \ < > : * " ? |

These names aren't allowed for files or folders: AUX, PRN, NUL, CON, COM0, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT0, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, LPT9

If you are unable to send feedback or report a problem when signed in with a work or school account, it is due to IT policies in your organization. Please contact your IT Admin for assistance.

  1. Open the Android Settings app and select Applications.

  2. Scroll down and select OneDrive.

  3. Select Storage then select Clear data and Clear cache.

  4. Close Settings then open the OneDrive app.

Tip: You won't need to sign in, but you may have to set up your Camera Upload and Organize new uploads.
