Missed call notification when delegate answers call for his or her boss

If a boss has more than one delegate, and a delegate answers a call on behalf of the boss, the other delegates will receive a missed call notification.

Workaround    After your organization upgrades to the Lync Server 2013 Cumulative Update, this issue should be fixed.

Can’t see sharing indicator outline or app sharing toolbar in Windows 8 style app and Windows 8 Start screen when sharing desktop

When you share your desktop, everything on your screen is shared. Meeting participants can view Windows 8 style apps and the Windows 8 Start screen while you share your desktop, but you (the sharer) won’t see anything to indicate that you are sharing your desktop.

Poll can’t be created when its name contains certain special characters

In the Danish version of the Lync desktop client, polls can’t be created when the poll name contains a special character such as ?, @, #.

Workaround    To successfully create a poll, use a name that doesn’t contain any special characters.

Unshared overlapping windows block the visible area appear as black boxes

When sharing Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applications on Windows 7, any unshared overlapping windows block the visible area appearing as a black box.

Workaround    Minimize or move applications that aren’t being shared such that there's no overlap.

Third-party applications using transparent windows might show the whole desktop

Third-party applications that use transparent windows might show the whole desktop even if only the application is shared.

Workaround    There is currently no workaround available.

Deleting a Lync Recording while being published causes new recordings to not show in the Recording Manager

If a recording is deleted while it is in the "processing" state, a new recording won’t show in Recording Manager until the Recording Manager is restarted. The new recordings will also not be processed.

Workaround    Exit and restart the Recording Manager.

Lync recordings on Windows 8 can take a very long time to complete

Some recordings can take a very long time to process. This will appear more often for those with limited network connectivity.

Workaround    Install the released version of Windows 8.

Lync Recording contains random users' videos

If you join the meeting by dialing in to the conference using the CAA numbers in the meeting invite and use Lync to dial in, and then start to record, the recording will show a random person's video (assuming there are more than one person sharing video). The expected design is the only the active speaker video is shown.

Workaround    Join the meeting using the meeting URL and not by dialing in.

Year of a conversation, chat, or call is missing the last digit in Arabic Lync at 125% DPI

The date (the year of a conversation, chat, or call) is missing the last digit in Arabic Lync at 125% dots per inch (DPI).

Workaround    When you resize or scroll, the issue will disappear. Also, in most cases you will probably remember the year in question and should not be affected by the loss of a digit from the year.

Sharer see multiple “now sharing” message when sharing Spotify application

When sharing Spotify application, sharer sees multiple "now sharing" messages while the viewer sees cropping around the edges of the application.

Workaround    Share Spotify application using desktop sharing.

Lync Mobile

Terms of Use link gives 404 error on iPad Mini

When you tap Terms of Use on the About page, you get a 404 error message.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Unable to sign in and unable to fetch meetings and voice mail from Windows Phone 8 devices

If your organization requires internally published server root certificates for users to access Lync and Exchange (as well as other Office programs) and using Certificates without HTTP Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs), these certificates won’t be accepted. This leads to the inability to sign in case of Lync Certificates or inability to get meetings and voice mail in the app in case of Exchange certificate. This problem will be encountered only on Windows Phone 8 devices.

Workaround    Your organization will need to publish server root certificates with HTTP CRLs included. These certificates will be installed and accepted on Windows Phone 8 devices.

On some Wi-Fi networks, calls can disconnect while in an audio or video call

On some Wi-Fi networks, an iOS mobile client (like iPhone 3, 4, 4S, or 5, iPad 1) can disconnect calls while in an audio or video call.

Workaround    Disable 802.11k or disable max-tx-fail check on the wireless controller (this check is used to disconnect the device if the number of failed packet transmission passes certain threshold).

Mobile user isn’t removed from a conference when disconnects outside voice call

If you join a conference using outside voice, you aren’t removed from the conference when you end the call portion of the conference. Others in the conference will still see you as connected.

Workaround    No workaround is available at this time.

No presence for the federated contact whereas desktop shows the presence

If you have federated contacts hosted on servers, you might not see the presence for these contacts.

Workaround    No workaround is available at this time.

Presence for Skype/PIC contacts may not be updated immediately

When a group with a Skype/PIC contact is expanded and the mobile client creates a presence subscription and immediately sends a query for the presence, an issue on the server is triggered. This results in the Skype/PIC contact's presence being shown in the correct state initially, but stops and updates until 30 minutes has passed. If the Skype/PIC user changes his or her presence, the new state won’t be reflected on Lync Mobile.

Workaround    No workaround is available at this time.

Lync Microsoft Store app (June 2013 update)

Tip:  To find out if you have the latest (June 2013) update, open LyncMicrosoft Store app, and look for the Meetings tile on your Home screen. Or, in the app, go to Settings > Permissions. The version, at the top of the Settings pane, should be 15.0.4517.1504. If you have an earlier version or don’t see the Meetings tile, go to the Microsoft Store, and install the update.

Lync can’t sign back in when running in the background when you use passive authentication.

If you use passive authentication to connect to your Lync Server or service, Lync can sign in only when the app is in the foreground—that is, when the Lync main window is visible. If Lync is in the background (not visible) when your PC or device loses its Internet connection, your login expires, or the Lync Server or service requests authentication, Lync will remain signed in until you open the app and sign in again.

Workaround    Go to the Windows Start screen or Menu, open the LyncMicrosoft Store app, and sign in again.

Sharing and video call invitations fail on some mobile 4G networks

On some mobile 4G networks, you may not be able to send or receive video in meetings and video calls or to see shared content in meetings. When you’re in a call or meeting, a notification will be displayed that video or sharing is available, but clicking Accept will result in a failure because the mobile network connection is temporarily lost.

Workaround    No workaround is available at this time.

Incoming calls or instant messages (IMs) for Lync on mobile broadband

There are a few known issues for people running Lync on mobile broadband:

  • Lync Microsoft Store app might get suspended for up to 15 minutes after an incoming call isn’t answered when the app is in the background. This means that other incoming calls or IMs may not be received during this time. This might also happen after you switch networks, roam, or have other types of incoming invitations that aren’t answered.

  • Lync Microsoft Store app might not auto-accept IMs on mobile broadband if you’re also logged into another Lync client. You might not receive this missed IM in your conversation history or in your Inbox.

  • Lync Microsoft Store app might not auto-accept IMs for incoming conference invites on mobile broadband whether or not you’re logged into another Lync client. You might not receive this missed IM in your conversation history or in your Inbox.

  • When LyncMicrosoft Store app is in the background, if you decline an incoming call on mobile broadband by dismissing the notification, the call will keep ringing in other active Lync devices.

Workaround    No workarounds are available at this time.

Windows device in Connected Standby might ring for an incoming call but no notification is displayed

If you have a Windows device in connected standby mode (plugged in, but your screen is turned off), and then you turn on the screen and receive an incoming call, you might not be able to see the incoming call notification to answer it, but you will continue to hear ringing.

Workaround    You can lock the screen to stop the ringing. Then if you unlock it, everything should work as usual.

Skill search isn’t supported for a workacct_long (Microsoft 365)

If you open the Search charm, type the text you want in the search text box, and select SKILL as the criterion to display search results, you get the following message:

Somewhere, there was a missed connection, and now your results may not be up to date.

Workaround    No workaround is available at this time.

Members of distribution groups may not be displayed in the contact list

When you open the Contact list the first time, Lync retrieves the members of each distribution group in the list. However, if there is a server connection issue when the Contact list is opened for the first time, the distribution groups will display as empty.

Because no error message is displayed when a distribution group doesn’t expand, it appears that Lync can’t work with distribution groups.

Workaround    The workaround for this issue is to sign out of LyncMicrosoft Store app and sign back in again.

Gallery view has a missing slot

When a participant is being switched to standing row from sitting row, the following happens:

  • A fade-out animation for the participant in the sitting row.

  • A fade-in animation for the participant in the standing row.

If the participant switches to a dominant speaker view (Full Screen or any other view) before the fade-out animation finishes and the fade-in animation begins, the fade-in animation doesn’t start and the participant stays in a hidden state.

Workaround    The workaround is to go to Full Screen view again and then get back to Gallery view.

You may not be able to end a call when the connection to Lync server is lost

If LyncMicrosoft Store app loses the connection to Lync server during a call or conversation, the audio may still continue. Lync displays the sign-in screen with a notification to close active conversations. If you select Yes in the notification, the call ends. If you select No, the notification disappears and you have no way to end the conversation until the connection to the server is restored.

Workaround    For a person-to-person call, ask the other party to end the call. If in a conference, you can end the call in one of the following ways:

  • log out from Windows

  • restart the device

  • end the Lync task from Windows Task Manager

Lync Microsoft Store app can’t connect if the time setting on the device is not in close synchronization with the time setting on the Lync server

Sign-in will fail if the time and date on your device is not set accurately. This is particularly important for devices that are not joined to a domain, such as Microsoft Surface or other devices running Windows RT.

Workaround    Set the time on your device to within 5 minutes of the time and date on the server. It is not necessary to match the time zone.

Lync Microsoft Store app may not be able to access the Lync server or services through some network adapters

Lync Microsoft Store app may not be able to access the Lync server or services through network adapters, such as 4G LTE USB modems, that don’t register with Windows 8 as physical devices. LyncMicrosoft Store app may have this issue even when the desktop apps and browsers are able to access other servers and websites.

Workaround    Connect to Lync server or services through Wi-Fi or a different network adapter.

Lync does not run on Windows 8 N and KN editions without the Windows Media feature pack

Lync requires components of Windows Media Player, but this product is not installed by default with the Windows N edition.

Workaround    Install the Windows Media feature pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8. For more information about this feature pack, see Description of the Windows Media Feature Pack for N and KN Versions.

When both LyncMicrosoft Store app and Lync 2013 (desktop) are installed, the wrong client is used to join meetings

If you have both LyncMicrosoft Store app and Lync 2013 for the desktop installed on your PC, you have to set one of them as the default client to use for meetings.

Workaround    The first time you select the Join Lync Meeting link in an Outlook calendar reminder to connect to a meeting, the Default Meeting Client dialog box displays. Select either Microsoft Lync or Lync (which means LyncMicrosoft Store app) and select OK. The next time you join a Lync Meeting from an Outlook calendar reminder, the meeting client you selected will be used automatically.

If you change your mind later, you can easily change the default meeting client. Here’s how:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the Windows Start screen and select Search. If you’re using a mouse, point to the top-right corner of the screen, move the mouse down and click Search.

  2. Type “default programs” in the text box, and from the search results, select Default Programs.

  3. Select Set your default programs, and then select the app you want from the list under Programs – either Lync (desktop) or Lync.

  4. Select Set this program as default and select OK.

Important:  Even if you set Lync 2013 for the desktop as your default meeting client, the Join Lync Meeting button on the LyncMicrosoft Store app home screen will always connect you to the meeting using LyncMicrosoft Store app.

Can’t select audio device through LyncMicrosoft Store app

You can’t choose the audio device to use with LyncMicrosoft Store app because the app automatically uses the audio device set as the default in the Playback and Recording tabs of the Sound dialog box in Windows. uses the “Default Communications Device” (which is a part of the Sound dialog) in the OS.

Workaround    No workaround is available at this time.

After signing in from multiple clients, calls may begin to fail

If you sign into Lync 2013 for the desktop from 16 or more endpoints (not all at once, but over the course of time), your calls from LyncMicrosoft Store app might fail even if you’re able to sign into the app itself. Admins troubleshooting this issue may see SIP 403 Forbidden for the call INVITE (ms-diagnostics: 4172;reason="No cert found for the user”).

Workaround    Sign out of LyncMicrosoft Store app and sign in again.

Admins troubleshooting this issue may see SIP 403 Forbidden for the call INVITE (ms-diagnostics: 4172;reason="No cert found for the user”).

Workaround    Sign out of LyncMicrosoft Store app and sign in again.

Connecting to screen or application sharing in a meeting does not work when using the LyncMicrosoft Store app on Windows 8.1 Preview.

Lync crashes in RAP/RAIL unless tabs/folders are enabled

Lync Server crashes on startup/sign-in a RemoteApp configuration unless Lync has both tabbed conversations and conversation folders enabled in Lync.

Workaround    Enable tabs/folders or use another way to provide remote access to Lync. For Lync Server 2013, we recommend you use the Lync VDI feature.

Can't Autodiscover Exchange Server from DNS SRV records

Lync Server can't automatically discover an Exchange Server using DNS SRV records. Instead Lync Server must use the HTTP Autodiscovery feature to find the Exchange Server.

Workaround    Ensure the HTTP Autodiscovery feature is properly deployed in your Exchange Server environment so Lync Server can connect to the Exchange Web Services.
