Important: The new way to update your profile is available in SharePoint and Office.com as of December 2024. It will be available for Outlook on the web, Outlook for Windows, and Teams in 2025. 

As of December 2024, the profile editor is your new place in Microsoft 365 for updating your profile. Use it to update your contact details, education, introduction, and more. When you update your profile, people in your organization will be able to see the information on your profile card. Some information may be managed by your organization and can’t be edited.

Update your profile information

Note: Profile updates can take up to 48 hours to show within Microsoft 365 apps and services.

You can access your profile in several ways:  

Outlook on the web

  1. ​Open your profile card in Outlook on the web and select the Update your profile button. Continue to step 4 below.

Microsoft 365, Office, or SharePoint

  1. Go to https://www.microsoft365.comhttps://www.office.com, or your company's internal SharePoint page.

  2. Type your name in the search bar at the top of the page and select Enter. A list of suggested results will display.

  3. Select your name in the suggested People results. Your profile card will display.  

    Important: You must select your name under the "People" results in order to see the option to update your profile.

  4. Select Update your profile to open the editor. ​​​​​​​The image below is an example of the profile editor:Profile editor in SharePoint

  5. Select the tabs on the left in the editor to update your information. Once you're finished, select Save changes. The changes will show on your profile card within 48 hours.

Some details, like your name and job title, may be provided by your IT or human resources department and can't be edited in the profile editor. If you want to update those details, contact them or your admin. Learn more

To find out where the information on your profile is stored, select the tooltip next to each field.

Privacy and visibility

To view who can see your profile information, go to the Edit details page in SharePoint:

  1. In the editor, select the "here" link in You can add more profile information here. ​​​​​​​ Edit your profile Once you're in the SharePoint editor, depending on your organization's policies, you may control which information you want to share with others by selecting Only Me or Everyone under Who can see this?

    Note: If your work or school manages your visibility settings, you won't be able to adjust them.

Frequently asked questions

Some information is managed by your organization and can't be edited. Please contact your admin to update the information. 

If you see profile information that wasn't shown on your profile before it is because it may exist in SharePoint User Profile application (UPA). The new profile editor experience surfaces legacy data from UPA. If your work or school allows it, you can manage the data in profile editor. To manage who can view your profile information, go to your profile in SharePoint.
