Microsoft Clipchamp is an online video editor designed to make video creation easy for everyone, even for those with no prior editing experience.
The video editor allows you to combine video assets, images, and audio files together, as well as adding visual effects like text overlays, transitions, and filters. You can also add royalty-free stock videos, music and sound effects, stickers, overlays, backgrounds, and more. Easily save videos directly to your device once you've finished editing.
How do I access Clipchamp video editor?
Depending on your needs, you can choose between two versions of the product. The personal version is designed for individual use. The work version is suitable for teams and organizations.
Clipchamp for personal accounts
You can access the personal version with a personal or family Microsoft account via the Clipchamp app for Windows 10 or Windows 11 and in the Edge or Chrome browser at https://app.clipchamp.com.
It's for personal use and includes a range of integrations to import videos for editing, incl: OneDrive, Xbox, Google Drive, and Dropbox. You can save completed videos back to your computer, or upload to OneDrive, Google Drive, YouTube, TikTok, Dropbox, and LinkedIn.
Clipchamp for work or education accounts
Access to this version of Clipchamp is managed by your organization, giving you a video editing application at work or school, making it easy to incorporate videos in your daily tasks.
Clipchamp for work or Clipchamp for education is built on OneDrive and SharePoint and integrates seamlessly with your other Microsoft productivity apps such as Stream, Teams, Outlook, and Viva Engage.
What software do I need to be able to use Clipchamp?
All you need to use the Clipchamp online video editor is a desktop or laptop computer with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge installed. As Clipchamp is the official Windows video editor, you can also get started with the Microsoft Clipchamp app.
On Windows 11 devices you can use the Clipchamp desktop app, just search for "Clipchamp" in the taskbar or via the start menu.
On Windows 10 devices, you can install the app via its entry in the Microsoft Store.
Note: For users of Clipchamp for work, the availability of the Clipchamp Windows app on your computer depends on it being enabled in your organization by your Microsoft 365 administrator.
Does Clipchamp cost anything?
Clipchamp for personal accounts
There are free and paid options. A paid subscription for our Premium plan gives you access to premium features such as stock assets, but a free account still includes all the tools you need to edit your videos.
In addition, if you're on a Microsoft 365 personal or family plan, some (but not all) Clipchamp premium options are enabled for you.
Clipchamp for work or education accounts
You can access the work version of Clipchamp if your organization has a subscription for the Microsoft 365 Enterprise (E3 and E5) or Business (standard, premium) suites, or their equivalent education licenses (A3, A5, from July 2024).
In addition to the Clipchamp standard plan being part of the above-mentioned Microsoft 365 licenses, the new Clipchamp premium plan is available as a Microsoft 365 Enterprise or Business add-on.
Clipchamp standard and Clipchamp premium are also available as standalone subscriptions for work users who are not on one of the Microsoft 365 license plans mentioned above. For more information, see this announcement.
How is Clipchamp different from other video creation tools?
While many other editing applications require you to download software, Clipchamp functions entirely in your browser, utilizing our unique localized processing. Using the Clipchamp desktop app is optional and is also using web technologies behind the scenes.
Clipchamp doesn't require you to upload your media files to a server for processing and can therefore get you working with your files faster. For more information, see: How Clipchamp stores and processes media files in editing projects.
