Share files with your team on Outlook mobile. Quickly attach files, photos and images to your emails. Outlook makes it simple to share documents and photos from anywhere. With just a few taps, you can:

  • Attach a file from any connected service to an email message.

  • Share a link to any cloud-hosted file in OneDrive, Gmail, iCloud, or Dropbox.

  • Capture, edit and share a photo, document, or whiteboard right within your email.

Attach a file

  1. In a new email or a reply, tap the paperclip icon and then Attach file.

  2. Choose where you'd like to retrieve the file.

  3. Choose a file and then tap Insert OneDrive for Business Link.

One of the most common ways of transmitting computer viruses is through file attachments. Outlook blocks the sending and receiving of certain types of files (such as .exe and certain database files) as attachments to help protect you and your recipients against computer viruses. We recommend using OneDrive and sending the recipient a link to the file if you need to send one of these file types to an email recipient.

Note: If you're using a Microsoft Exchange account, your email server administrator can unblock certain file types. Contact your administrator for more assistance.

Share files through the cloud

If you need to send a file that's blocked by Outlook, the simplest way to send your file is to upload it to OneDrive or a secure network share server such as SharePoint. Then send a link to the file. If you need to receive a blocked file, ask the sender to upload the file to OneDrive or SharePoint and send you a link. Once you receive the link, you can open the file location and download the file.  Note: For OneDrive and OneDrive for Business, you'll need to ask the sender to only send you a link to the file rather than attach the file to the email using OneDrive. To obtain a sharing link in OneDrive, highlight the file and choose Get Link in the menu bar.

For best performance, there is a size limit to attachments in Outlook for iOS and Android.

iCloud

  • Max iCloud Attachment: 20MB

  • Max iCloud Message size: 20MB

Other account types

  • Max attachment size: 33 MB

When you attach an image that's larger than 1MB to an email, you have the option to compress/resize it.

  • If you choose to keep the original, then all images on the message are sent in their full size.

  • If you choose to resize, then ALL images on the message are compressed—this includes images added later while still editing that draft.

If you save the draft and come back later, and you add another large image, you will be asked again and your choice will apply to all drafts during that editing session.

Images will automatically be added to the body of your message. All other attachment types will still act as regular attachments.

We’ve brought this feature to both iOS and Android to help provide a better way for you to read email, and see images where they belong improving the overall flow of your emails.

If you have any thoughts or concerns about this feature, we’d love to hear your feedback! Just go to Settings  > Help & Feedback  > Send feedback.

Attach a picture with Office Lens

  • From an email you're drafting, tap Camera  to take a picture with Office Lens in Outlook.

  • Select photo, document (iOS), scan (Android), or whiteboard.

  • Capture the image, review and edit, and tap Done or Finish.

About the different Office Lens modes:

Photo: Use Photo mode if you're capturing images of scenery or people.

Document (iOS) or Scan (Android): Document or Scan mode will help make the most out of small words and details on a page. It's great for things like receipts, contracts, posters, fliers and similar.

Whiteboard: Whiteboard mode is best for capturing notes. The new camera will adjust images so the background isn't too bright and the words are easier to read. It's an ideal setting for blackboards and sketches, too.
