How to add an embedded document or picture into a webpage

If you have a website or blog, it's quick and easy to embed photos, Office documents, and other files from OneDrive. You can even customize how embedded Excel workbooks appear to other people.

  1. Go to the OneDrive website and sign in.

    Sign in

  2. Go to OneDrive Files view and find the file you want to embed.

  3. Select the file and click and select </> Embed.

  4. Select Generate in the pane that opens to get the HTML needed for embedding your file.

Important: Anyone who visits the webpage with this embedded file will be able to view it without signing in.

This item won't load right now

If an embedded file no longer shows on your website or you see the error "This item won't load right now", it could be because the file is no longer available, or the link you used has changed.

To fix embedded files not showing:

  1. Remove the original embedded HTML code from your website.

  2. Go to the OneDrive website and sign in.

    Sign in

  3. Go to OneDrive Files view and find the file you want to embed.  

    Note: If the file you embedded is no longer shared with you, you cannot embed it.

  4. ​​​​​​​Select the file and click and select </> Embed.

  5. Select Generate in the pane that opens to get the HTML needed for re-embedding your file.

    Important: Anyone who visits the webpage with this embedded file will be able to view it without signing in.
